Recording at least one Noma Alert every week is no longer new, as we have been having it since the beginning of the year till now. What is new and worthy of note in the 37th epidemiological week was that all cases were seen in early and pre-defect stages (1 and 2) of Noma according to WHO. This carries important implications.
First, our deliberate effort in catching Noma at an earlier stage is yielding result. This is more economical to manage for the affected patients and our partner that offer free treatment for Noma patients.
Secondly, this means the factors responsible for previous cases are still present. This is because two of the four cases were reported from locations where established cases had been reported.
These developments are fueling our passion to maintain the energy towards #Zero Cases, Death and Stigma as a result of Noma disease.
