With the increased attention given to Noma disease, new discoveries are coming to the fore on the best possible ways to achieve optimal result in patient management. One of such is the importance of physiotherapy in management of Noma.

Preliminary findings show that early commencement of jaw exercise in the management of acute phase can potentially reduce the occurrence of #trismus. This is a common complication that eventually manifests in most survivors where the contracture of fibrotic wound edges limit opening of the mouth.

Also, #physiotherapy holds a crucial position in the management of #survivors where the trismus is already established. Such vital addition helps to achieve maximum mouth opening after relevant surgeries have been performed.

On this #WorldPhysiotherapyDay, we acknowledge the vital role physical therapy plays in the management of Noma and calls for optimal integration where needed.
