While increased case reporting is partly a reflection of sustained awareness efforts, awareness alone does not explain the pattern. The reality is that the risk factors associated with Noma—malnutrition, poor oral hygiene, inadequate immunization, poverty, and poor sanitation—remain prevalent and continue to interact within vulnerable communities.

This serves as a reminder that awareness must be sustained, not only to improve case detection and reporting but, more importantly, to drive preventive actions that stop new cases from occurring in the first place. This would call for more action by people, and importantly, government‼️
